THE HELEN SHAPIRO
TOUR, 1963 |
This tour saw The Beatles playing second fiddle to
Helen Shapiro, backing her up with other support acts - Danny
Williams, Kenny Lynch, The Honeys, The Kestrels and The Red
Price Band. All of the shows were compered by Dave Allen. Ringo
had only been a Beatle for a few months, and was still settling
in. He said: I was still the odd one out, the new boy. But
the togetherness of this tour helped a lot. At first I worried
about who I'd share with at the hotels, but mostly it was me in
with Paul, and John and George sharing another room. |

THE BEATLES LAST
AMERICAN TOUR, 1966 |
Prior to this tour starting, Datebook
magazine published John's 'Jesus' comment in the States and
there was a fucking uproar! Twenty-two radio stations
immediately banned their discs and organized some Nazi-like book
burnings, with kids chucking in their records and memorabilia.
The situation was deemed so dangerous that Brian Epstein even
considered cancelling the tour. The support acts were The
Ronettes, The Cyrkle and The Remains. |
